Deborah Baynes has offered residential pottery courses since 1971. Deborah has taught thousands of students the rewarding challenges of clay and the potter's wheel from throwing to Raku and salt glaze firing. Deborah now offers her pottery courses at her studio at Nether Hall in Suffolk.
Longfield Studio which overlooks Sheen Common, adjoining onto Richmond Park is a peaceful place to work and be creative. Here you can buy a series of vouchers permitting you to come and learn about throwing, hand building or making something in clay at your own convenient time, be it weekend, evening or daytime. firing and glazing is included.

Pottery should be fun regarding of ability. I work with one student per wheel and never have more than 3 students at a time. This enables me to spend quality time and provide an intensive but enjoyable experience.
Normal hours: 10:00 - 12:00hrs / 14:00 - 16:00hrs. Lessons in 2 hour blocks. £20/hour.Weeks days and Saturdays. Reduction for whole day ie 4 hours for &75. Tea and coffee provided and snack lunch for all day students.
Also available are longer periods of tuition over a 2/3 day period, with local accomodation and meals are available.

These 4 day workshops, led by John Evans, are held each year in W Sussex. The techniques include naked raku, ferric fuming, saggar firing, and horse-hair/feather raku. Burnishing and use of terra sigillatta also included. Limited numbers - Early booking essential. An advanced course is also available which takes the techniques to a higher level and includes pit-firing, indian smoke, ferric lustre glazing, and kosai (stannous chloride fuming).

The Matrix Glaze Technology course is designed to provide an understanding of ceramic glaze fundamentals for studio potters. The course approaches the subject from an analytical point of view focusing on the chemistry of glaze and includes tutorials in the use of Matrix Glaze Software.

The Pandora workshops are located in the medieval town of Sorano, in southern Tuscany. The various workshops at Pandora, are inside the imposing Orsini Fortress in Sorano, and are fully equipped for the different activities: ceramics, glass, painting techniques, sculpture, restoring and photography. Pandora organises a variety of courses, mostly in summer, of a duration of one or two weeks: a large part of the courses are designed to widen students knowledge of the applied arts. The course structures are of a high standard, employing qualified artists and teachers. Outline of the courses The courses are held in the Fortezza Orsini in Sorano where the teaching laboratories are situated. All courses, except for the advanced ones, start at a basic level and therefore do not require any particular previous experience on the part of the pupils.
